    • Hemp oil vs CBD oil

Have you been left confused after seeking to find out exactly what the differences between Hemp oil and CBD oil are? We’ve put together a simple guide that will give you some clarity on the differences between the two and how they each can benefit you.

What is the difference between Hemp and Marijuana?

First thing’s first, hemp and marijuana are names that are used to refer to different strains of the cannabis plant.

‘Marijuana’ generally describes the type of cannabis that is psychoactive and has medical and recreational uses. We use the name ‘hemp’ to describe the type of cannabis that is low in psychoactive properties and can be used as a health supplement and industrial resource.

To put it simply, Hemp and Marijuana are both strains of the same genus of (Cannabaceae) plant, but they have different chemical compositions, and are grown differently based on their intended purpose.

      Legality

The Special Access Scheme allows CBD oil to be prescribed under very strict conditions from a specialist medical professional. Federally it is legal but laws and conditions vary from state to state.

The production and sale of hemp seed oil and other hemp food products was made legal in Australia from November 2017.

Both CBD oil and hemp seed oil must contain less than 0.3% THC to be considered legal in Australia. Recreational use of cannabis is still illegal federally and across all states and territories.

      The Extraction Process

Hemp oil and CBD oil are from different parts of the plant and have vastly different therapeutic benefits.

CBD oil, short for Cannabidiol oil, is extracted from the flowers, leaves and stems of marijuana. Hemp oil is cold pressed from the seeds of industrial cannabis and does not contain Cannabidiol. Cold pressing ensures that no nutrients are lost in the extraction process.

      Cannabinoid content

Cannabinoids are important compounds within cannabis. They interact with different cannabinoid receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system to produce particular effects. Cannabis contains more than 60 types of cannabinoids, many of which have medical value, but the most important are THC and CBD.

THC, short for tetrahydrocannabinol, is a psychoactive compound most commonly associated with marijuana because of its ‘high’ effect.

      (THC Molecule)

One thing both Hemp seed oil and CBD oil have in common is that they contain almost no THC. CBD oil is non-psychoactive and has a high count of Cannabidiol. Hemp seed oil contains little to no Cannabidiol.

      Why use CBD oil?

CBD oil is a medicine and an invaluable treatment for chronic pain and diseases. It has a high count of Cannabidiol which acts as a neuro-protectant, anti-convulsant, and anti-psychotic, It alao has immunomodulatory and neuroprotective effects.

Taking CBD oil has shown promising evidence as a treatment for epilepsy, auto-immune disorders, cancer, motor disorders, osteoporosis, nicotine addiction, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.

      Why use Hemp oil?

Hemp seed oil is not a treatment or cure for illness. However, it is an incredible health supplement and a rich source of nutrients and minerals including magnesium, iron, zinc, potassium, vitamin E, vitamin D and B vitamins.
